This mystery ACP Pradyuman was not able to solve. One fine evening, Shivaji Satam of CID fame got a call from some common friend stating that Lata Mangeshkar is a big fan of famous serial CID, which has been running on Sony Channel for more than a decade.
Shivaji Satam was stunned and he couldn’t believe that Lata Mangeshkar, one of the idols he revered, would like to speak to him. “Believe me, I was stunned – rather dumb struck. And in a minute I was speaking to the legend – whom we hear day in and day out on radio.
Here I was listen to her directly – not one radio but on my phone,”
But Shivaji Satam, the gentleman he is not ready to speak about his experience. It’s a personal feeling. `Will Didi Lata Mangeshkar like if I speak to the press ?” he is concerned.
But a little bit of prodding him does the wonders.
“She was gracious enough to speak to me and speak highly about our programme CID,” he adds. Yeah over the years CID has garnered enough eye balls – and much of the fan following is from the younger generations and kids.
But a personality of Lata Mangeshkar’s stature ?
For Shivaji Satam the whole World came to a stand still. “Believe me, ” he states again, `Firstly, I didn’t know what to speak and how to continue the conversation. And here she is speaking so beautifully – in a very casual or informal manner.”
“It was so natural and simple – that I felt as if I was speaking to one of my sisters. We are total of 14 siblings ( brothers – sisters and cousins.) and my eldest sister is in her 70s. I felt as if I was speaking to my own sister. The conversation was so simple and familial. She enquired about me and my family. I was inquiring about her”
That is beauty of speaking to a legend like Lata Mangeshkar – I explain to Shivaji.. She is so great and legend – yet she will make you feel so comfortable and important.
“Believe me I continued to speak to her for so long. Over the phone, it was so easy going and no – starry airs. Just as we speak to one of the close members of our family,” Shivaji adds.
Yeah, Shivaji Satam had forgotten the world around him. Because despite it was a legend like Lata Mangeshkar on the other side, he was made comfortable and the conversation continued for a long time.
“Only after my friends, Pritam and Maheshbhai made me realise – when they told me `man… you were speaking to none other than Goddess Saraswati’…
“and that is so true,” he signs off.
